Last weeks Doctors appointment was great!

Last week was great at my doctor’s appointment.
One thing I really appreciated was having a doctor who pays attention to the little details. During my exam, she looked at my tongue and noticed some fissures. She asked if those fissures hurt when I ate, and I told her no. Then she asked me how long they’d been there. I said, “probably about 10 years, I’m not sure.”
Her response surprised me. She explained to me that it can sometimes be a sign of a vitamin B12 deficiency, so she ordered additional lab tests just to make sure. I have been vitamin D and iron deficient in the past, so I was glad she did that.
I’ve been getting annual physicals for as long as I can remember, and not one doctor has ever mentioned it. I honestly thought it was just a normal part of my tongue.
The lab tech drew five vials of blood and so now I wait for the lab results, which should be back in about a week. In the meantime, her advice was simple: increase my protein intake and add more strength training to my routine.
Then came the reminder that, at the young age of 50, there are a few new milestones. She sent me home with a FIT test to screen for colon cancer and also recommended that I get the pneumonia and shingles vaccines.
I politely declined the vaccines…for now. 😂 I looked at her and said, “I just barely made it to 50 last year. I’m gonna pass.” We both had a good laugh.
Last weeks appointment reminded me how important it is to have a healthcare provider who looks like me and who truly pays attention. Sometimes the smallest observations can lead to the biggest discoveries.
✨ Have you ever had a doctor notice something that everyone else overlooked? I’d love to hear your story in the comments. And this is your friendly reminder to book your doctors appointment!
Sending you love, light and positive vibes,
