The conversation…

I recently had a conversation with someone I deeply care about. They expressed how I had disappointed them, and I listened. I held space for their feelings. But what I didn’t do… was tell them the truth—that they had been disappointing me too.
Not because it wasn’t true, but because I knew they were going through something. And like I’ve done so many times before, I chose them over me.
That moment stirred something in me. It took me back to December—a season where I was doing everything in my power just to hold myself together. I was breaking quietly, carrying heartbreak, loneliness, frustration, and a deep sense of abandonment.
And in the middle of all of that… there was silence.
A silence so loud it felt deafening.
Even when I tried to express what I was going through, it felt like my words were being brushed aside—heard, but not truly received. Over time, I started to feel invisible. Like my pain didn’t hold weight. Like my voice didn’t matter.
So I did what I’ve learned to do best.
I retreated.
I went back into my shell and convinced myself that staying quiet was safer than being dismissed.
But then, an opportunity presented itself. They shared how something I did hurt them. And this time, I chose differently. I spoke up. I allowed myself to say, “You hurt me too.”
And still… nothing.
No acknowledgment. No understanding. Just the same familiar feeling—that what I had to say didn’t matter.
And just like that, I wasn’t an adult navigating a hard conversation anymore. I was that younger version of myself again… the one who felt like no one was really listening.
But here’s what I’m learning:
Silence may protect others, but it slowly breaks you.
I am learning that my feelings are valid. My voice deserves to be heard. And I don’t have to keep shrinking myself just to make others comfortable.
If you’ve ever felt unseen, unheard, or dismissed—this is your reminder: your voice matters. Speak your truth, even when it’s uncomfortable. The right people will hear you.
Sending you love, light and positive vibes,
Cassie K.
