Division Is Not of God

I wasn’t planning to speak on this publicly, but it’s been placed on my heart to bring clarity and truth. As a writer and someone with a platform, I feel called to address it directly and respectfully.

It deeply bothers me when people claim to love God and honor His Word, yet stir up division and strife. That is not of God.

The Backstory

My uncle Pookie (aka Salathiel King Stovall) passed away on August 4th of this year. The plan was to have him cremated and to hold a celebration of life in his honor. My dad asked me to set up a GoFundMe, which I did, with a goal of raising $3,000, half to cover cremation and an hour of viewing, and the rest to fund the celebration. We raised $805 through GoFundMe. Additional family and friends gave donations directly to my dad, bringing the total to $1,500.

Because my uncle had a living daughter, she was legally the next of kin and had the final say over his remains. After contacting her, and a week after my uncle passed, she chose not to allow a viewing and said she would handle the cremation herself. In her words, "I will pay for my dad to be cremated!" End of the story!

Once we learned that, I suggested refunding the donations, but my dad opted to use the funds for the celebration instead. That’s what we did. Anyone wanting a breakdown of expenses can request it, I have all the receipts. Every last penny was used to celebrate my uncle. Which included: rental of facility, decorations, food, keep sakes of our uncle for loved ones to take home, banners, programs and so much more!!!

If you want a full expense report, all you you have to do is ask.

Haven't you ever heard the phrase "Close mouth don't get fed?"

The Accusations

About a week and a half ago, I saw my dad tagged in a Facebook post. Some family members had called the cremation facility and discovered my uncle was still there. Who would have known, his daughter didn't follow through on her word to take care of him. Rather than speak to us directly, they took to social media to publicly attack my dad’s character and even called me out of my name.

Normally, I would’ve addressed it on my Tiktok/Youtube platform via video, but God told me to hold off until now....video coming soon. What they don't know is that I’ve kept documentation of everything: receipts, donations, screenshots of every post and comment, and even the slanderous things said about me, my dad, and my daughter.

And let me say this, my daughter showed up in a MAJOR WAY. Her business, LivsTable, catered the entire event for her great-uncle, and I couldn’t be more proud of her. Uncle Pookie would have said to his niece, "thank you for keeping my party Sucka Free."

I advised my dad not to engage with the drama online, reminding him that this is a family matter. But he’s grown and free to make his own choices. Safe to say, he had a few choice words to the instigators! I mean let's be real, why should anyone believe the truth when a lie is more entertaining! Hmmmm, save that drama for your mama!!

Where Things Stand

As of today, my uncle has been cremated, thank you to all who chipped in. Sadly, two family members are now threatening legal action against my dad, and an couple of them have since blocked him. In an effort to make peace, he’s offered to repay those who contributed to the original request for help, and the two most vocal critics have agreed. Saying and I quote, "we will be at your house on Saturday to pick up our money."

A Final Word

So, I ask: How can you claim to love God, yet sow discord? Is your goal the truth, or to simply look good in front of others?

The entire situation could have been handled with grace and respect. All of this nonsense was made public, it was messy and very harmful. There are things I could say that would damage certain family members reputations, but I won't. I refuse to add to the drama. That's not who I am in this moment, and that is not what God has called us to do.

Before you accuse someone, make sure you have the facts. If you’re genuinely seeking the truth, then you should be open to hearing it.

GOD IS NOT THE AUTHOR OF CONFUSION, and HE CERTAINLY DOESN'T CAUSE DIVISION.

Where there is UNITY, GOD commands a BLESSING.

Let’s choose unity over ego. Peace over pride. Truth over assumptions.

Sending you love, light and positive vibes,

Cassie K
