Embracing the Shift: Life After 50

I started talking about “the shift” back on September 1st—and some of you might be wondering why. And even if you’re not, I’m going to tell you anyway.

This past Thursday, I celebrated my 50th birthday. What a blessing it is to see another year around the sun! I give all thanks to God for allowing me to step into this next chapter. Turning 50 feels like the start of my second half—one where I finally take center stage.

For years, I’ve poured into others, especially my children. But now, they’re grown. They’re working, independent, and building lives of their own. I’ve even stepped into a new role as a grandmother—my beautiful granddaughter Reign is already 4 months old. With my kids no longer needing me in the same way, I’ve realized: it’s my time now.

The day after my birthday, I started a second job—and with that, I embraced a new beginning. The possibilities feel endless on this side of 50.

Setting Goals & Making Progress

One of my biggest goals is to become debt-free within 12 months. When I started this journey in July, I was facing $42,000 in debt. Today, I’m down to $39,995. That might not sound huge to some, but to me, it’s a major milestone. I’m proud of the progress I am making and fully committed to staying the course with hard work, discipline, and consistency.

But that’s not all—I’m also on a fitness and health journey. In January, I weighed 252 lbs. Today, I’m at 225, and I feel amazing. I was wearing a size 18-20 and now I fit a size 16-18 with the goal of being a size 14. Yes its possible and I will achieve it. On April 3rd, I gave up refined sugar—and it’s been life-changing. The mental clarity, the reduced cravings, and finally sleeping through the night without waking up to eat... it’s something I hadn’t experienced in over two decades. In fact, I hadn’t slept that well since my youngest daughter was born—24 years ago. I was waking up almost every night, walking to the kitchen, eating sliced cheese and crackers! And yes, I would be half asleep slicing the cheese off a block just so I could eat it. (Insert laugh here)

Healing From the Inside Out

Since January, I’ve also been in therapy. And let me tell you—the growth I’ve experienced mentally and emotionally is something I never imagined. Triggers that once held power over me no longer control my reactions. I’m lighter—not just in body, but in spirit.

Some long-term relationships ended this year, and while it was hard at first, I now understand that those seasons in my life have simply run their course. And you know what? I’m not sad about it anymore. God is making room for new, beautiful connections—and they’ve already started showing up.

Finding Peace in Solitude

These days, I spend more time alone—walking in nature, praying, just being—and I genuinely love it. I’ve found joy in solitude and strength in my conversations with God.

Your Shift Can Start Now

So, what’s “the shift?” It’s a personal transformation—a decision to put yourself first, to grow, to heal, to chase after the life you deserve.

And here’s what I want you to know: don’t be afraid of the shift. Don’t wait until 50 to start choosing you. No matter how old you are right now, you can begin making the changes that lead to a better, fuller life.

You deserve it.

Sending you love, light and positive vibes,

Cassie K.
