Get Dressed!

When you work remotely, it's easy to fall into a routine of pajamas and bonnets. No commute, no strict dress code — just you, your computer, and maybe a cup of coffee, tea or smoothie. Comfort is a huge part of remote life, but here's something we don't talk about enough: getting dressed to go out — even if you are not actually going anywhere -- can change everything.
It's not about vanity, it's about intention.
Have you ever felt out of sorts and when you decide to get dressed, it changes your whole mood? What I have realized since I have been working part time remotely is getting dressed up like I am leaving my house even though I am not, does wonders for me. I have come to understand that I am slightly down in spirit because I know that I will be at home all day without any human interaction. Now I am not complaining, I am just pointing out something that I have always known and now I want you to know. About a month ago, I got up and started my day like normal. Washed my face and brushed my teeth, took my bonnet off, shook my hair in place and sat down at my workstation in my home office. I noticed that I wasn't my cheerful self, and I attributed that to not making an effort. After working for a couple hours, I decided I needed to get dressed like I was leaving my house. So, I showered, got dressed, fixed my hair, put on some jewelry including some eye liner and lip gloss and I felt like a million bucks.
When you take the time to get ready — shower, pick out an outfit that you feel good in, maybe even throw on a pair of real shoes, (I wear slippers in my home, no shoes allowed inside), - you send a signal to yourself: Today matters, I matter. You shift your mindset from "just getting through the day" to showing up for it.
Even though I was only going from my bedroom to my office, dressing like I had somewhere to go boosted my energy, my focus and my confidence. I mean think about it. When you are all dressed and ready to go somewhere, you are more likely to turn your camera on during Zoom meetings. You feel just a little more alive, a little more connected to the world beyond your four walls.
Plus getting dressed with intention helps draw a healthy line between work and rest. When the workday ends, changing clothes (even if it's a pair of your favorite shorts) becomes a small ritual that tells your brain, we're done for now.
So, tomorrow morning, if you're working remotely like myself, get dressed like you have somewhere to go. You'll be surprised at how much more you will want to step into your day — and your life!
Sending you love, light and positive vibes,
