Our WORDS have POWER!

Psychologists say our subconscious mind takes what it hears very literally. So the words we speak, especially the ones we repeat, shape the world we end up living in.

The Bible has been telling us this all along. Proverbs 18:21 says, “Death and life are in the power of the tongue.” In simple terms: you will see what you speak. If you always say you’re broke, money will always feel out of reach. If you constantly say you’re sick, you’re agreeing with the sickness instead of with your healing. So let me ask you, what negative things are you speaking over your own life?

Have you heard the phrase, “A mind is a terrible thing to waste?” It’s true. When we think about something long enough and keep speaking it, we eventually give it power whether we meant to or not.

Philippians 4:8 encourages us to think about things that are good, pure, and worthy of praise. It’s not just spiritual advice; it’s practical. Your thoughts and your words work together. So pause for a second and really think about your own thoughts, the things you say out loud, and the patterns in your life. Do you see any connection?

Let me give you an example. I don’t get headaches often, but when I do, I try not to say it out loud. Instead of announcing, “My head hurts,” I speak Scripture over myself. Growing up in a non-denominational church, we’d always say, “By Jesus’ stripes I am healed,” from Isaiah 53:5. It’s my way of pushing back against whatever is trying to take hold of my body. I often speak out loud, "I walk in divine health, all the days of my life." This new job I am working can be rough on my body, so sometimes I come home sore. But even then, I don’t agree with the pain in my speech. I stretch, adjust, and figure out how to work smarter the next day, without claiming the pain as mine.

I also once knew a guy named Tyrone. For months, he would talk about how he was “gonna break this man’s face,” referring to someone he couldn’t stand. He said it so much it became almost a routine. And then one day, he snapped. He did exactly what he’d been saying. The other man ended up with two black eyes and a broken nose that needed plastic surgery.

Now I know that’s an extreme example, but it shows how powerful repeated words can be.

So think about it, what are you always saying? And does your life line up with those words?

I really believe that changing the way you speak can change your life. It’s all about perspective. Is your glass half empty, or half full? A lot of that depends on the language you use every day.

One thing that helps me is starting my morning with positive affirmations. Every day I wake up, I tell myself, “It’s going to be a good day.” And sure, bad things still happen sometimes. But when my mind is focused on the good, I get through the bad a whole lot better. No matter what, it will be a good day.

Just a few weeks ago, I lost someone I loved dearly. I woke up with tears in my eyes, pain in my heart, and a spirit that felt heavy. But even in that grief, I told myself, “Today will still be a good day.” And I chose to lean on the beautiful memories we shared, especially our last conversation and those hugs I already miss so much.

So let me encourage you the same way I encourage myself: start your day with something positive. Even one uplifting sentence can shift the way you move through your day. And if you make that a habit, you’ll start to feel the change, not just in you, but around you.

So once again I encourage you to:

  • Speak that One Sentence!

  • Tell that One Truth!

  • And see that One little spark of light!

Sending you LOVE, LIGHT and POSITIVE VIBES,

Cassie K.
