Self-care is a must

Last week, I was talking with my daughter when she asked me about my self-care routines. Her exact words were, “Mom, what are 25 self-care things that pour back into you?”
I had to pause because I honestly couldn’t remember the last time I took intentional time for myself. I couldn’t even think of one, let alone twenty-five.
It’s only the fourth day of the new year, and I can already tell you that last year brought many changes for me. I was challenged emotionally, physically, mentally, socially, and financially. Through it all, I found myself constantly giving but never making time to refill. I wasn’t pausing long enough to sit back and fill my own cup.
As believers, we are taught that we cannot pour from an empty cup. But how can we fill ourselves if we don’t intentionally carve out time to do so? In the same way we show up for work, show up for our clients, and show up for our families, we must also show up for ourselves. We have to make ourselves a priority.
I wanted to share 10 of my 25 self-care practices with you. Maybe this will give you an idea of what might work for you.
Reading
Writing
Traveling
Listening to music
Spending time in nature
Performing
Getting dressed up just to go out
Giving hugs
Buying myself flowers
Attending comedy shows
As you read this, I want you to pause and be honest with yourself. When was the last time you truly did something just for you, not out of obligation, not for anyone else, but simply because your soul needed it?
Take a moment today to write down five self-care practices that pour back into you. Then choose one that you can commit to this week. It doesn’t have to be big or expensive because self-care can be as simple as taking a walk, sitting in silence, journaling, or saying no when your body and spirit are asking for rest.
Give yourself permission to slow down. Give yourself permission to rest. And most importantly, give yourself permission to be a priority in your own life.
You are worthy of care, too.
Sending you love, light and positive vibes,
Cassie K.
