Silence the outside noise!

In a world that never stops talking, learning to quiet the noise around us has become an act of survival - and self-love.

Everywhere we turn, there are opinions, expectations, comparisons, and judgements. Social media, news cycles, even the caring voices of our friends and family can cloud our own instincts. Without even realizing it, we start to move through life reacting to the noise instead of responding to our own truth.

Over the last month, I have had to remind myself many times to silence the outside noise. When we speak about certain things, our phones are listening and then all of the sudden, we are getting memes and messages about the very topic we have been talking about. I know for me; I went down a rabbit hole on social media ingesting a lot of information that conflicted with what my gut was telling me. I had to detach myself from any and all forms of information. I had to listen inward before I let the outside noise continue to cause confusion.

When I silenced the outside noise, I had to pull back from perusing online or talking to my closest people about things I was experiencing. I had to become selective and listen to my heart and the spirit that lives within me. I attended church last Sunday and was reminded to allow God's spirit to guide me. Galatians 5:22-23 reminds us about the fruit of God's spirit which is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. At that point, I was feeling as if I was losing all control. My mind was running laps and was exhausted. I couldn't think straight, and I definitely wasn't sleeping well at all. I had to learn to differentiate between noise that was distracting me and the guidance that was empowering me.

Here are some small ways that helped me silence the outside noise

  • I turned off my notifications on my phone for a few days and pulled back from the volume I was posting on social media.

  • I said no or didn't answer my phone when I knew conversations were going to drain me and not uplift me.

  • I made space each day to sit with my thoughts and boy was that hard to do.

  • I had to stop and ask myself before making a decision if it was something I wanted or something someone expected of me.

When I gave myself permission to quiet the outside noise, I started hearing the voice that mattered most and that was my own. God has given me the wisdom to already know my next step. My value isn't measured by how much noise I make or how many people cheer me on. My peace isn't found outside, but it's cultivated within.

In my silence, I didn't lose myself. I finally met myself. Are you ready to really meet yourself? If you are, I implore you to silence the noise and make time to sit with yourself and discover you on a deeper level.

Sending you love, light and positive vibes,

Cassie K.
