It's the last Sunday of 2024 and I have a question for you. When was the last time you sat in silence? Have you ever sat in silence or are your days filled with lots of noise, distractions, and nonstop to-do lists? I know for me; it can be all of those things. The idea of sitting quietly, doing absolutely nothing, can feel foreign to us, maybe even a little uncomfortable. Did you know that taking the time to embrace silence can be profoundly beneficial for your mind, body and overall well-being?
I always love to listen to music as I drive and have a full blow music concert in my car. This past 3 weeks, every day that I have been on the road I have been driving in silence. This was the first time ever as I cannot remember a time when I drove by myself in a silent car. These weeks have been different to say the least. I have had to sit with my thoughts and really ponder on what I am thinking about. I have gained mental clarity with different situations and relationships in my life. I have received so many downloads from God, and I am super excited about the next step in my journey of life.
I remember watching actor Denzel Washington while he was doing an interview, and he told the interviewer that one of the best things you could do when you wake up in the morning is to sit in silence for 5 minutes. He said not to grab your phone and get distracted by what's happening all over the world, but to focus on your quiet time with your thoughts.
Making silence a priority in your life helps in many ways. Below are just a few ways it can be beneficial.
1. It reduces your stress and anxiety.
2. It improves your mental clarity.
3. It enhances your creativity.
4. It boosts self-reflection and inner growth.
5. It improves your focus and productivity.
6. It supports your emotional regulation.
7. Strengthens your mind-body connection.
8. It deepens your mindfulness and presence.
If quiet time scares you a little, I say start small. Begin with 5 minutes of sitting quietly each day. Then as you feel more comfortable, you can slowly extend the time. Find a quiet place, remember to breathe and be patient with yourself.
In a noisy and busy world, sitting in silence is a radical act of self-care. By intentionally seeking stillness, you give your mind and body the rest it needs to thrive. Embrace those quiet moments, it holds the power to transform your life, one slow breath at a time. As you sit in silence over the last few days of 2024, I pray you have clear direction on where you are headed next in 2025!
Sending you love, light and positive vibes,
Cassie K.
